Yankees’ Aaron Boone furiously yells at umpire over catch during win over Blue Jays, gets ejected
Yankees Manager Aaron Boone Ejected Over Disputed Catch Call
New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone was ejected during Tuesday night’s 5-4 win over the Toronto Blue Jays after arguing that a diving catch by outfielder Daulton Varsho was actually a trap. The play came in the seventh inning on a ball hit by Jazz Chisholm Jr. and was ruled an out by the umpires. Boone had already used his team’s challenge earlier in the game and could not request a review on the disputed call.
Boone confronted umpire Brennan Miller and expressed his belief that the ball had been trapped rather than caught cleanly. The exchange occurred in the top of the eighth inning. Boone later stated that he felt two calls had gone against his team and acknowledged that he overreacted after realizing no further challenge was available.
This ejection marked the 48th time Boone has been removed from a game as Yankees manager and the second such incident this season. The team still secured the victory after earlier home runs from Ben Rice and Ryan McMahon helped shift the score in their favor.
New York completed the game without further incidents after the ejection and improved its standing in the series against Toronto.
