Samantha and Brexton Busch Lead Charlotte Tribute to Kyle Busch
Kyle Busch’s wife Samantha and son Brexton made their first public appearance since his death at a pre-race remembrance ceremony on the grid before the NASCAR Cup Series Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway in Concord, N.C., on May 24, 2026. Standing alongside NASCAR CEO Steve O’Donnell, NASCAR Hall of Famer and team owner Richard Childress, and Kurt Busch, they were joined by drivers and other members of the NASCAR community as bagpipes played “Amazing Grace” and attendees raised No. 8 flags in the grandstands.
Busch, a two-time NASCAR Cup Series champion who competed across all four of NASCAR’s national series during his career, died this past week at 41 from complications related to pneumonia. O’Donnell addressed the family directly during the ceremony, telling Samantha that the sport stood with her and that she and her children were NASCAR family. He also spoke to Busch’s sons Brexton and Lennix, and offered remarks about Busch’s character away from the track, describing a driver who quietly helped teammates and acted without expectation of recognition. Fans observed a tribute on lap eight of the race, rising in unison as the field passed the main grandstand.
The Indianapolis 500, held earlier the same day, included a moment of silence for Busch, with several drivers marking his passing individually. A video tribute narrated by Dale Earnhardt Jr. was also released in the days following his death. Busch’s iconic No. 18 appeared at Indianapolis in tribute, according to the draft material. Charlotte Motor Speedway, located in Concord, N.C., sits at the center of NASCAR’s operations and served as a fitting location for the sport’s most visible collective act of mourning.
Further tributes are expected at upcoming NASCAR events as the sport continues to process the loss of one of its most prominent competitors of the past two decades.
