Pochettino Names Reyna, Aaronson in Reported 26-Man World Cup Squad
The United States men’s national team has reportedly finalized its 26-player roster for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with sources indicating that Gio Reyna, Brenden Aaronson, Mark McKenzie, Matt Turner, and Sebastian Berhalter are among those selected by head coach Mauricio Pochettino. U.S. Soccer is not expected to make a formal announcement until after Memorial Day.
Reyna’s inclusion, reported by The Athletic, ends a prolonged period of uncertainty for the 23-year-old, who was sent home during the 2022 World Cup in Qatar under circumstances described at the time as behavioral. The son of former U.S. international Claudio Reyna logged 509 minutes for Borussia Mönchengladbach this season and had publicly stated his desire to represent the United States at the tournament. Sebastian Berhalter, son of former USMNT head coach Gregg Berhalter, is also reported to have earned a place in the squad.
Not everyone made the cut. Reports indicate Real Salt Lake midfielder Diego Luna, who scored four goals in 18 appearances for the national team and contributed 22 goals over the past three club seasons, was omitted from the final group. Teammate Zavier Gozo was also told he would not be part of the squad this summer.
The United States opens its World Cup campaign on June 12 against Paraguay at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, as one of three host nations for the expanded 48-team tournament alongside Canada and Mexico.
