Paris arrests top 45 as PSG title celebrations turn violent

French police arrested at least 45 people in Paris on Saturday, May 30, 2026, after street celebrations marking Paris Saint-Germain’s Champions League final victory over Arsenal deteriorated into disorder, with vehicles torched, shops vandalized and crowds clashing with officers along the Champs-Élysées and near the Arc de Triomphe.

The Paris police prefecture confirmed that individuals set fires, damaged a bakery and a restaurant, and briefly blocked the main ring road encircling the city before officers dispersed the crowd. A group also attempted to storm a police station during the unrest. One officer sustained an injury. The arrest figure of 45 was confirmed as of 10 p.m. local time, with police working to contain gatherings that stretched across multiple districts of the capital. PSG’s final against Arsenal was played in Budapest.

The scale of the unrest, while significant, was notably smaller than what followed PSG’s previous Champions League triumph, when more than 500 arrests were made across France and 201 people were reported injured in Paris alone during celebrations that turned violent in a similar pattern.

No further fixtures remain for PSG this season following the final, and French authorities have not indicated at this stage whether they intend to revise public-order protocols for future major club football celebrations in the capital.
